At Pilates Barre & Jams, we are decolonizing pilates by making it more accessible for the people. All classes are deliberate-paced. What the heck does that mean? Deliberate (n.) slow, unhurried, steady, as though allowing time for decision on each individual action involved.
Like a Sunday drive, Teresa uses imagery, metaphor, and other stuff to challenge you to connect with the juiciness of the work --- including details about the form, alignment, or movement of an exercise. She may slow the tempo, or pause the class to explain a concept, and if the synergy is just right, Teresa has been known to speed up the pace for 1 or 2 exercises. Although these tactics produce some serious side-eye in the moment, there are always comments of how good bodies feel afterward.
